TRIPTI was founded one fall evening in 2003 as Debjani ruminated about her childhood summer vacations spent in the cozy company of her mother and Grandma in India. Those idle summer afternoons presented Debjani and her cousins the perfect opportunity to raid Grandma`s Chutney cabinet and savor the heavenly delights while adults rested. Fearful monsoon kalbaishakis (norwesters) were followed by a mad scramble into the family orchards to collect the fallen fruits - especially those green mangoes with which Grandma made her famous mango chutney. Memories of Grandma`s exquisitive Chutneys inspired Debjani to create a line of all natural, preservative-, and additive-free Chutneys following recipes treasured in her mother`s family for generations. It is Debjani`s ardent desire to present this line of spicy (yet not HOT) and YUMMY condiments to America so that it becomes a part of the national cuisine.
Debjani decided to bottle her handcrafted Chutneys for the wider market buoyed by feedback from American friends who came over for dinners at her home and by the encouragement from customers of the Community Mercantile and Pachamama, in Lawrence, Kansas, where these Chutneys are served as a part of the menu. The small scale of operations enables Debjani to preserve traditional quality and taste in every handcrafted batch.
